PDF Converter — Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 October 2026

This policy covers PDF Converter, the PDF converter and document scanner for iPhone and iPad published by AZ & J PTY LTD (ACN 699 901 196, ABN 42 699 901 196). The app was previously called PrivaScan; the rename did not change how it handles your information. This policy describes version 1.1 and later. Earlier versions include neither usage analytics nor iCloud Sync.

PDF Converter has no accounts of its own, and we do not run a server that receives your documents. Scanning, converting files and photos, text recognition, naming, search, editing, signing and app lock are processed on your device. Two optional features send information off the device: Pro iCloud Sync, which stores your library in your own iCloud, and Share usage analytics, which sends feature usage to PostHog. Document content is never included in analytics. When you convert a web page, your device loads that page from the website you chose, as described below.

What PDF Converter keeps on your device

PDF Converter stores the following inside its app container:

  • Your scanned and imported documents.
  • Text recognised from documents and the search index built from it.
  • Document names, categories, tags, folders and favourites.
  • Your saved signature.
  • Your app-lock, onboarding, analytics and purchase-entitlement settings.

This data is included in iPhone and iPad backups you make with iCloud Backup or a computer, according to your device settings. You can delete documents and your saved signature in the app. Deleting PDF Converter removes its local data, but not copies in iCloud Sync or in device backups, and we cannot recover local data for you.

Text recognition and automatic naming

Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework on your device. Automatic document names and filing suggestions use Apple's on-device Foundation Models where available, with an on-device rules-based fallback on other devices. Document images and recognised text are not sent to us or to an external AI service.

Converting files and web pages

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text and HTML files are converted to PDF on your device. While a file converts, the app blocks it from loading anything from the internet.

Web page to PDF: when you paste or share a link, PDF Converter loads that one page on your device to make the PDF, the same way a browser would. The website you chose receives the request, as it would from Safari, under its own privacy policy. We don't receive the address or the page, and neither is included in analytics. The PDF is saved to your library like any other document.

From the Share sheet: you can also send a web page from Safari, or a file from the Files app, to PDF Converter with the Share button. PDF Converter's share extension converts it on your device, as described above. Until you next open PDF Converter, the new PDF waits in a storage area on your device that only PDF Converter can read, with the name, folder and page size you chose. If a page or file is too large to convert in the share extension, its address or a copy of the file waits there instead, and the app converts it the next time it opens. The app then moves each one into your library and deletes it from that area. So the Share sheet can offer your folders, the app also keeps a list of your folder names there; the list is empty while app lock is on.

Pro iCloud Sync

When PDF Converter Pro is active and you are signed in to iCloud, PDF Converter syncs your library through your private iCloud database unless you turn iCloud Sync off in Settings. It syncs:

  • Each document's PDF, including any signature you have placed on it.
  • Document names, original filenames, categories, tags, favourites and signed or edited flags.
  • Folder names and each document's folder.
  • Created and modified dates, and page counts.

Recognised text, the search index and your saved signature are not synced; each device recognises text again on its own. Synced copies use your Apple Account and iCloud storage, and Apple stores them under its own iCloud terms and privacy policy. We cannot access your private iCloud database. Changes and deletions copy to every device that uses the same Apple Account, so iCloud Sync is not a historical backup.

Optional usage analytics

While Share usage analytics is on, PDF Converter sends information about how features are used to PostHog, our analytics provider, in the European Union. We use it to understand which features work and to improve the app. It includes:

  • Feature starts and outcomes: scan, import, search, organise, page edit, markup, sign, merge, compress, extract, export, share, app lock and iCloud Sync. An outcome is completed, cancelled or failed, with a broad error category such as storage or camera.
  • Where a feature started, such as the library, a document or Settings, and rounded ranges for page counts, durations and search result counts.
  • App opens and onboarding completion.
  • Pro offer views, and purchase or restore outcomes with the plan type (annual or lifetime).
  • App version, iOS or iPadOS version, whether the device is a phone or a tablet, the analytics library version and the time of each event.
  • A random installation identifier created on your device. It is sent with each event so usage can be counted over time for that installation.

Analytics never includes document content, document names, filenames, document identifiers, recognised text, search queries, tags, signatures, onboarding answers, error messages or your advertising identifier. The app asks PostHog not to record your IP address or work out your location from it. Screen views, tap tracking, session replay, surveys, feature flags and crash reports are turned off.

Your analytics choice

During onboarding, the analytics switch starts on unless you opted out before. You can turn it off on that page, and leaving the page applies the choice shown. Nothing is sent before then, and skipping onboarding before that page leaves analytics off. If you used PDF Converter before version 1.1, analytics stays off unless you turn it on in Settings.

You can turn Share usage analytics off in Settings at any time. That stops new collection and discards events that have not been sent yet. It does not delete events already sent to PostHog.

To ask us to delete analytics already sent, choose Request analytics deletion in Settings. It prepares an email to [email protected] that includes your installation identifier, which we need to find your records. The option stays available after you turn analytics off. The identifier cannot be recovered after you delete the app or erase the device, so send the request before you do.

App lock

If you enable the app lock, PDF Converter asks iOS to authenticate you with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. PDF Converter receives only whether authentication succeeded; it cannot access or store your biometric data.

Purchases

Optional Pro purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple may process purchase and payment information under Apple's own privacy policy. PDF Converter receives the product, price and entitlement information needed to show offers and unlock Pro features. We never receive your payment-card details. Restoring a purchase does not create a PDF Converter account. If Share usage analytics is on, purchase and restore outcomes are included as described above.

When you leave the app

Privacy Policy and Terms links open in your browser. This website's handling of request information is described in the website privacy policy. If you email us for support, we receive the address, message and any details you choose to include, solely so we can respond.

Providers and overseas processing

Apple provides iCloud storage and processes purchases. PostHog processes optional analytics in the European Union. A web page you convert is loaded from the website you chose, wherever it is hosted. Apple and email services may process information in other countries, so we do not promise Australian-only storage for information sent to these services.

Retention

Local data stays until you delete it or delete the app. iCloud Sync copies stay in your iCloud until you delete the documents while sync is on or remove the data from iCloud. Our PostHog project keeps analytics events for up to one year. We keep support email while needed to resolve requests. Conversions waiting from the Share sheet stay on your device until PDF Converter next opens. A web page that couldn't load is tried again for up to a day, then removed.

What we never do

  • We do not sell or share your documents or personal information.
  • We do not show advertising or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
  • We do not use your documents to train AI models.
  • We do not operate servers that receive your documents.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask what personal information we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We do not hold copies of your documents. For analytics, website or support information, email [email protected] and we will respond within 48 hours. Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you further rights, such as withdrawing consent or objecting to processing. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or your local privacy regulator.

Children

PDF Converter does not ask for a date of birth or a name. If a child uses the app, a parent or guardian should manage purchases and the analytics choice. If you believe a child has sent us personal information that should be removed, contact us at the address below.

Changes

If PDF Converter's data handling changes, we update this page, its date and the app's App Store privacy label before the change ships.
