K53 Ace — Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 October 2026

This policy covers K53 Ace, the iPhone and iPad app for preparing for the South African K53 learner's licence test, provided by AZ & J PTY LTD (ACN 699 901 196, ABN 42 699 901 196), based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It describes version 1.1 and later. Version 1.0 sent no data at all.

You can use K53 Ace without an account. The app never asks for your name or email, and your study progress stays on your device. While Share anonymous usage data is on, the app sends anonymous crash reports to Sentry and anonymous feature use to PostHog, so we can fix problems and improve the app. Neither includes your answers, anything you type, or anything that identifies you. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy. K53 Ace has no advertising, does not track you, and we do not run a server of our own.

What stays on your device

K53 Ace stores the following in the app on your iPhone or iPad only:

  • Your learner's test date and daily reminder time
  • Your answers to practice questions, the taster, and mock exams, including flagged questions and time taken
  • Mock exam results, your mistakes, and which road signs you have learned or saved
  • Settings such as haptics and usage data, and whether full access or the free trial is unlocked

We do not operate an account or a server that receives this information. Daily reminders are local notifications that iOS schedules on your device; they are not sent through us. iOS may include app data in device backups, depending on your Apple settings. Those backups are managed by Apple or by you, not by us.

Crash reports and usage data

While Share anonymous usage data is on, K53 Ace sends two kinds of information.

Crash reports and diagnostics, to Sentry. When the app crashes, freezes, starts slowly, or hits an error (for example, a purchase or a reminder that could not be set up), it sends a report so we can find and fix the problem. A report contains technical details of the problem, the app version, the iOS or iPadOS version, the device model, and a short trail of the screens and app events that led up to it. For about one in five sessions, the app also sends performance data, such as how long it took to start and whether screens were slow to draw.

Anonymous feature use, to PostHog. The app sends a fixed list of events about how its features are used:

  • The app was installed, opened, updated, or moved to the background.
  • Which screens and onboarding steps were shown.
  • A taster, practice session, mistake review, mock exam, or flashcard deck was started, finished, or left early, with totals such as the number of questions, how many were right in each section, whether the pass marks were reached, and how many minutes it took.
  • Which road signs were opened or saved, and which sign filters were used.
  • A sign search was made, with only the number of results.
  • A test date was set, as the number of days away.
  • Your test-day check-in answer (passed, not yet, or a new date), and whether you shared your pass card.
  • A reminder, haptics, or the usage data switch was changed, or your progress was reset.
  • The purchase screen was shown and why, and whether a purchase, restore, or free trial started, finished, was cancelled, or failed.
  • The app asked iOS to show the App Store rating request, or a help, privacy, terms, or “Report a mistake” link was opened.

Each event also carries whether you have full access or the free trial, whether the device is an iPhone or iPad, the app version, the iOS or iPadOS version, and the device model.

Sentry and PostHog each create a random identifier on your device, so reports and events from the same installation can be counted together. These identifiers are not linked to your name, email, Apple Account, or advertising identifier, and PostHog creates no profile of you. Sentry is set not to collect IP addresses, and our PostHog project discards them, so neither keeps your IP address.

What is never sent

  • Your name, email, or any account, because the app has none.
  • Your IP address or your advertising identifier.
  • Your answer to any individual question.
  • Your test date. Only the number of days away is sent.
  • Anything you type. A sign search sends only the number of results.
  • Screenshots, screen recordings, or a record of your taps.

K53 Ace does not track you across other companies' apps and websites, and nothing it sends is used for advertising.

Your choice

Share anonymous usage data is on when you install the app. Turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy. The app then stops Sentry and PostHog straight away and deletes usage events still waiting to be sent. It sends one last event to say the switch was turned off, then nothing more while it stays off. If you turn it on again, PostHog starts with a new random identifier.

Turning the switch off does not delete reports and events already sent. Because they carry only random identifiers that the app does not show, we cannot pick out yours, but you can ask us about them as described below.

We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. What is sent is limited to that purpose, is not linked to you, and you can object at any time by turning the switch off.

Separately, if you choose to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us aggregated usage statistics and crash logs for K53 Ace, as described in Apple's privacy policy. You control this in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Purchases and the free trial

Full access is a one-time purchase made through the App Store. The free 7-day trial is also an App Store item: it costs nothing and does not renew. Apple handles both and tells the app on your device whether full access or the trial is active. K53 Ace does not use a third-party purchase service, and neither the app nor we receive your payment-card details. See Apple's privacy policy.

While Share anonymous usage data is on, the app records anonymously whether a purchase, restore, or free trial started and how it ended, as listed above.

Sharing and contacting us

If you share your result after your test, the app creates an image showing that you passed and your study totals (mock exams, days studied, and questions answered). It is sent only to the app or person you choose with the system share sheet.

If you email us, for example to report a mistake in a question, we receive your address, your message, and anything you attach. We use them to reply, to fix the problem, and to handle related privacy requests. K53 Ace does not attach your study records to emails.

Providers and overseas processing

Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., in the United States) processes crash reports and diagnostics for us. PostHog processes the anonymous usage events for us in the European Union. Support emails are handled through our email service. Opening this policy or another website sends normal web-request information to that website. Our site is hosted by Cloudflare; see the website privacy policy for its hosting and analytics practices. Apple, Sentry, PostHog, Cloudflare, and email services may process information outside Australia and South Africa.

We do not sell personal information, show advertising in K53 Ace, or use it to track you. Information may be disclosed where required by law.

Deleting your information

Settings → Reset my progress in K53 Ace deletes your mock exams, answers, mistakes, and sign progress from your device. Deleting the app removes everything it stored, but not separate device backups or images you have already shared. We cannot recover your progress for you.

Sentry and PostHog keep what they receive for as long as our plans with them allow, then delete it: for Sentry, 30 to 90 days; for PostHog, one year on the free plan and up to seven years on paid plans. We keep support emails while we need them to resolve your request. Ask us to delete them at any time.

Your requests and complaints

To ask what we hold, to correct it, or to delete it, email [email protected] with “K53 Ace privacy” in the subject. We respond within 48 hours. We will never ask for your Apple Account password or payment-card details.

If you live in South Africa, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) gives you these rights, and the right to object to how your information is used. In Australia, the Australian Privacy Principles give you the same rights to see and correct what we hold.

Contact us first about a complaint. If it remains unresolved, you can contact the Information Regulator (South Africa) or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children

K53 Ace is made for people preparing for a learner's licence test. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not ask for a date of birth or a name. If a younger learner uses it, a parent or guardian can turn Share anonymous usage data off in Settings → Privacy.

Changes and contact

The app licence, the K53 Ace disclaimer, and purchase help are in the K53 Ace terms of use.

We update this page, its date, and the app's App Store privacy label when K53 Ace's information handling changes, before that version of the app is released.
